Meet the 2014 Grant Fund Winners: Colmore Business District

This grant to Colmore Business District will allow three organisations to work together to facilitate this valuable and fun project…

Who are you?

Colmore Business District (CBD) is a business improvement district for the commercial quarter of Birmingham.  As part of our many projects and activities to improve the business district, we are keen to provide a vibrant offer in the area through welcoming arts and culture.

What will you use your grant for?

The grant will enable us to partner with the Music for Youth (MFY) National Festival and bring live music performances to outdoor public spaces, hospitality venues and professional sector firms in the CBD area at lunchtimes and in the evenings. This will cater to the well-being of employees in the District, encouraging them to take a break during work. The festival will be one of CBD’s many projects and activities to make the business district a better place in which to work, live and visit.  The partnership will also support youth talent by creating an opportunity for a wide range of young people to perform, progress and showcase the richness and diversity of their music to a new audience. It will help to increase the confidence and motivation of young people to progress their own musical development and performance, through the increased opportunity to perform to a public audience.

“Working in the District, I value CBD’s programme of events for my entertainment and wellbeing – particularly the CBD Food Festival, Birmingham International Jazz & Blues Festival in CBD, Colmore Chorus and personal safety training sessions.  Their events are well-organised and successful.  Bringing the ‘Music for Youth’ festival into the area will further add to its vibrancy.  It also represents a great opportunity for young people.  You’ll be sure to find me among the CBD deckchairs enjoying the festival!”
